Our first few weeks of school has been a huge success! I am so proud of all the students. They are all working so hard in centers and beginning to read!
Water Bottles: Please feel free to send your student in with a water bottle to drink. They can keep it on our back counter and drink from it as needed. If you choose to do this please put your student's name on their bottle so it does not get mixed up with another students'.
Reading Log: A monthly reading log will be going home. At the end of the month please turn it in and your student will go home with a special treat. Their white scholastic books also count!
Kindergarten 1st nine week goals: ELA (English Language Arts) goals: Students should be able to write their first name without a model, ID 14 upper and lower case letters along with their sound, and ID 20 sight words. Math Goals: Count using 1:1 correspondence, ID numbers 1-10, and write numbers 1-10. White Scholastic Books: I am so proud that your students are excited about reading. I have students already on their 11th book! Please practice reading nightly with your students. Make sure your student points to the word they are reading. Nightly reading is key to the success of our Kindergarten students. Once your student can successfully read his/her book to you please return the book in their folder. Your student will then read the book to me and if they are successful they will get the next book. Remember this is the only way to treasure box in our classroom.
ABC's and Name Writing: All of your students have been assessed on their letter identification and letter sounds. A letter will come home in your student's folder on Monday showing exactly what letter and sounds they need to work on. All students need to know their letters and sounds no later than December and preferably by November. Please have your student practice writing his/her name and reminding them only the first letter in their name is capitalized.
Sight Words: We have begun teaching sight words. Under the sight word tab you will see the bold sight words that have been taught. Please practice these words with your students. Students have to read and spell the words correctly in writing.
I want to thank you all for your continued support of our classroom! You all are amazing!
